24 – 25 September 2021, Veliko Turnovo

Dear Colleagues,

The Faculty of History, at the University of Veliko Turnovo and the Centre for Economic History Research (CEHR) are kindly inviting you to attend the scientific conference “Entrepreneurship in Historical Perspective”, which will be held at the University of Veliko Turnovo between 24th and 25th September 2021.

Entrepreneurship can be widely interpreted, but this scientific forum focuses on the history of entrepreneurship as an economic activity, especially in the modern and contemporary eras. The closest synonyms of the term “entrepreneur” are “intermediary” or “organizer”. Entrepreneurship and its spirit are based on the ability to make quick and accurate decisions, sometimes even in the absence of sufficient information. Therefore, the main qualities of the entrepreneur are speed and determination in difficult and unclear situations, or accurate assessment of situations, when most participants in the business process are hesitant and slow in their reactions. Other important qualities of entrepreneurs include the willingness to take risks, the pursuit of profit, speed and efficiency, observation. Some researchers outline a different image of entrepreneurs. They emphasize on their charisma, their role in introducing innovations: new methods of production, new products and goods, opening of new markets, new forms of economic behavior, even new type of mentality and ethics. Entrepreneurs are people with open worldview – they speak foreign languages, operate simultaneously on national and international markets, contact with foreign counterparties.
